Component assessment under load using Cosmos (FEA software)
FEA allows components to be subjected to operational loads. The resulting stresses, strains, deflections etc. are assessed, allowing informed changes to be made to a components design. Whether this be addition of ribs or thickening of a section that may have failed, or the reduction of sections that are not subjected to high stresses and strains in order to reduce component weight or the material cost of the final part.
Assessment at an early stage optimizes component design and can reduce design iterations at a prototyping and testing stage, reducing time and cost to market.
