Selective Laser Melting
In the process metal powder (e.g. stainless steel 1.4404) is locally melted by an intensive infrared laser beam that traces the layer geometry, it melts this layer and then builds up subsequent layer to form you part.
We can produce component to tolerances of +/- 0.02 mm Maximum build platform size at present is 250 x 250 x 250 mm
Why Use It
Direct Manufacture -It is used in the medical profession for implants, in manufacturing for sheet metal press tools or pressure die casting tools.
Speed - The SLM process allows a High speed building process of 5 cm3 dense steel per hour on average.
What to Consider
Cost - SLM can be a relatively expensive route for prototyping in metal if you require a metal component and cost is an issue.
Have you considered - Thermojet Prototyping?
